Designing a Die Casting Mould

A Die Casting Mould is a tool used to cast metal parts. It contains a cavity that forms the contours and dimensions of the casting. This cavity is filled with liquid die casting alloy. This material is fed into the cavity through a gating system. Once inside the mold, the metal is allowed to cool.

In addition to its physical characteristics, the die casting mould must be well-conditioned in order to prevent cold laps. These cold laps can occur as a result of the cold surface of the dies meeting the hot metallic liquid. Some types of moulds require special equipment and methods to be preheated, including blowtorch, liquefied gas, and mould temperature machine. Others can be preheated with a slow injection process.

The design of the die casting mold is also crucial. Often, manufacturers add product logos and brand names. Some also include a date or other identifiers in order to distinguish batches. While these elements may not be a hindrance to the design process, they may add to the cost of production. For example, a raised logo will require more metal than an indented symbol.

When designing the mold, it's important to consider the type of material to be used. If the metal is too soft, it will crack or drip from the opening. In addition, the depth of the mold is important.
